What does it mean to be beautiful?

What does it really mean to be beautiful?

What does it mean to be beautiful? I don’t know why but there is something about the way we look that just never seems to be enough. For the longest time, I actually believed that I was ugly. How did I come to this conclusion? The sad reality is that a lot of people (even the drop-dead gorgeous ones) are walking around feeling ugly.

Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder? I feel like that gives the “beholder” way too much power over our looks and how we feel. Don’t you think?  In addition, this brings about the feeling of insecurity and a host of other negative reactions. It makes us constantly worry about what our neighbors, friends, and even strangers think of our looks.

Beauty really is on the inside but not in the normal way we think of it. Sure being kind, generous, sweet, etc, is great. But honestly, those can be faked. Anyone can be kind at one point in their life depending on how they feel or what their motivation is.

INSIDE Beauty

I think that real beauty is in how we see ourselves; not from the reflection in the mirror or in pictures. It is how comfortable we are with ourselves. True beauty is getting to the point where we can truly enjoy our own company. Not needing other people to feel happy. Being able to spend hours or even days alone without feeling so lonely or depressed.

It is the kind of beauty that allows us to genuinely feel happy and content with who we are. Then and only then will acts of kindness, generosity, love, etc flow through us freely without having to put on a show.

Additionally, we won’t put such a heavy burden on the “beholder” or be in a desperate need to have others see us in ways we want them to view us. This kind of beauty allows us to have a life that is free from all the prison walls we’ve worked so hard to build around us.

Therefore, the more comfortable we are with who we are from deep within us, the more readily we can accept the person looking back at us in the mirror. Having this kind of acceptance within us certainly allows us to stop obsessing over the size of our nose or lips (you can fill in the blank). It simply ceases to matter.

Equally, It is important to take care of your outer beauty, however, it should never be the basis for determining your beauty. A lot of us look at our reflection in the mirror and that starts the domino effect on how we treat ourselves and other people.

To clarify, I’m a guru at this whole beauty thing. I have to say though that I have come a really long way. I have learned so much and yet there is still more to learn.

More on how we get to this place of inner beauty tomorrow.

Thank you for reading,

Grace
